Some of these platforms are commercial. Others are free. When choosing a platform I recommend that you consider at least the following factors:
Ownership:
-
Will the students own their portfolios? If this is a commercial software, will your alumni retain access to their sites?
Interaction:
-
Will you have different stakeholders interacting with the ePortfolios (i.e, faculty in different departments providing feedback and creating assignments)? If so, does the software facilitate this interaction?
Technical Demands:
-
Is the software user friendly? If not, do you have the resources to provide users with training? Does the software have built-in tutorials available?
Visual appeal
-
Does the software produce a visually appealing product? If not, if this very important? Are you planning to use the portfolios for marketing or career development purposes?
